NORTHERN VIRGINIA BEEKEEPERS ASSOCIATION
June 23 NVBA Meeting - Beekeepers Want to Know about Metarhizium: Selecting Fungal Strains to Improve Honey Bee Health with Molly Quade
When: 23 June 2026
7:00PM - 9:00PM
As an undergrad Molly Quade collaborated a research project with Fungi Perfecti.
Molly investigated the role of Reishi mushroom extract in enhancing honey bee immune systems. This experience sparked her interest in mycology and insect-fungi relationships. Now a graduate student at WSU, Molly is researching the use of Metarhizium and other entomopathogenic fungi in honey bee Integrated Pest Management (IPM).
Molly is currently focusing on developing fungal strains for Varroa mite management and
examining additional hosts for these fungi and will continue her research in mycology,
with the long-term goal of advancing the uses of fungi in sustainable agriculture.
