Jul 14 – NVBA Special Meeting – Bylaws Update Vote and Outreach Program
When: 14 July 2026
6:30 PM – 8:00 PM
Please plan to attend a special meeting of the members of Northern Virginia Beekeepers Association, Inc. (NVBA) on July 14, 2026. At this meeting NVBA’s members will discuss and vote on proposed updates to NVBA’s bylaws. NVBA’s board of directors (Board) recommends these changes to address current operating practices and various organizational needs.
Here is a summary of the proposed bylaw changes.
Article 4: Association memberships last for 12 months from when dues paid (instead of for a calendar year).
Article 5: NVBA conducts all written communications with its members by email.
Article 6: The Board may meet in person, by teleconference or by videoconference.
Article 8: Nominations for the Board must occur prior to NVBA’s annual meeting. NVBA members may nominate themselves.
Article 10: To shorten the period between the adoption of NVBA’s budget and the availability of budgeted funds, its fiscal year begins April 1. NVBA invests its reserve funds conservatively in non-bank accounts selected by Board.
Article 12: The Board is elected and NVBA’s annual budget is adopted at NVBA’s annual meeting. Annual meetings generally occur on the fourth Tuesday of March and may occur by videoconference. The Board has flexibility to determine the frequency of additional member meetings.
The bylaws as proposed to be amended and a redline detailing how the proposed changes would alter the existing bylaws (adopted in 2015) are attached.
The July 14 meeting will occur via videoconference. To ensure participation by a quorum of members as needed to amend the existing bylaws, the Board urges you to attend this meeting.
