Brenda will be discussing how honey bees use pheromones to communicate and will focus on the 4 most important pheromones used by honeybees inside and outside of the hive.

Brenda Kiessling is an Eastern Apicultural Certified Master Beekeeper who lives in Vienna, VA. She has kept honeybees “since it was easy” – more than 50 years. She also keeps osmia bees (the small bees that live in tubes). In 2013, she received the Northern Virginia Beekeepers Association Lifetime Achievement Award. She leads a beekeeping 4-H Club in Fairfax County called “2 B A BEE.” In addition, she attends local, regional, and international beekeeping meetings and has travelled to Ireland, France, Ukraine, Canada and Denmark for Apimondia meetings – the world honey bee organization.
