Jan 16 (Note the earlier date!) NVBA Meeting - Bill Hesbach on Thermoregulation and Ventilation in Hives

  • 16 Jan 2024
  • 7:00 PM - 9:30 PM

Bill Hesbach on Thermoregulation and Ventilation in Hives

Learn how bees control the internal hive temperature using thermoregulation and what effect that has on the colony. Topics include convection flows inside a colony and the concept of a condensing colony versus the more common practice of adding ventilation. Participants will better understand what role ventilation plays in a natural hive environment.

Bill Hesbach is a EAS Certified Master Beekeeper, a graduate of the University of Montana's master beekeeping program, and the President of the Connecticut Beekeepers Association. He also operates a sideline bee business called Wing Dance Apiary in Cheshire, CT., producing artisanal raw honey and other natural hive products.

He's a published author, and his articles on beekeeping appear in The American Bee Journal and Bee Culture magazines.
