August 24, 2021 NVBA Meeting - Results of the APHIS survey - Keith Tignor and Anne Fraser with EAS outbrief

  • 24 Aug 2021
  • 7:00 PM - 9:30 PM
  • Zoom Meeting

Keith Tignor, the Virginia State Apiarist, will discuss the purpose, procedure and results of the APHIS survey sponsored by the US Department of Agriculture and implications for beekeepers in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

The APHIS survey was begun in 2009 by the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service and the University of Maryland with collaboration from the Apiary Inspectors of America. Its purpose is to monitor for threats to honeybees, including new pests and diseases as well as assessing the incidence of known and established diseases, pests and pathogens. The State Apiarist and bee inspectors that report to him are the first line against invasive new pests.

This is a great opportunity to interact with your State Apiarist on the challenges we face from varroa, nosema and viruses in Virginia. Keith is always generous with his time and extensive knowledge of bees and bee management!

Anne Fraser will give an out brief on the EAS meeting.
